Nesseby

Nesseby municipality has 900 inhabitants, but it covers a large area of ground, and each of the inhabitants has 1.5 square kilometres of land to him or herself! Varangerbotn is the main administrative centre for the area.

Nesseby's existence has always been dependent on the stocks of fish in the fiord and the game on the plateaus. Fishing and reindeer farming have always been the main businesses here. Both the king crab and several different types of fish are abundent here, and the area has good grazing pastures for reindeer.

The Varanger Samiske Museum here has done a good job of promoting the Sami culture in the area. A visit here will explain to you things about the settlement here and in Mortensnes for the last 10,000 years.
