Kingdom of Colours

The landscape in the Varanger area is like a multi-coloured firework explosion, where sky and sea meet in a spectacular colour show. The location in the arctic area gives the region five quite different seasons, all of which have their own special colour and light scheme.

When springtime comes, nature awakens and the surroundings are coloured in soft blue tones which lighten the sky after another long winter. In the summer, the arctic world is bathed in delicate green colours under the spotlight of the midnight sun. When the nights once again begin to get colder and longer, autumn's fire-like colours burst forth. The northern lights dance in the dark of the polar night, spreading their magical colours accross the sky. Slowly but surely, winter comes and the strong gusty winds play with the glittering snow in a winter-white landscape.

Varanger's unique combination of colours and lights is something that cannot be experienced anywhere else in the world. Each season offers the opportunity to try different activities. How about birdwatching in spring? Or seafishing during summertime? Or quail hunting in autumn? Or fishing for king crabs beneath the northern lights? And to finish it all off, how about a husky-pulled sledge ride in the deep midwinter snow?
