At the end of July each year, Norwegian- Russian markets are held in Varanger. The Pomor festival marks the trading which formerly took place between the Russians and Norwegians up until the time of the Russian Revolution. Vardø was the main town where Pomor trading took place. Fish was traded for other wares such as wheat and timber.
Pomorfestival is a historical festival but today there are many other events which take place at the same time. Old friends meet up again and the town is full of people from early morning to late at night. We also try to break the world record for arctic bathing, but mostly we just have a good time. From 28. - 31. July 2011, come and see Vardø at its best and liveliest!
